Day 4 of 9
Thursday, June 29, 2017 Day 5 Thursday. Emerald It’s still overcast and drizzling when we get up. It continued to go from misty, to rain to some non rain times. We figured we had the time, so we made pancakes, little smokies, tea and coffee and cleaned up the dishes. We got the bear bags up and decided to go fishing at the stream inlet at the northeast end of the lake. We put on rain gear and water shoes and paddled down. It was still overcast and kind of drizzly but not miserable. The little inlet was pretty idyllic. I checked out the portage to Plough that was supposed to be a cool portage. It was pretty boggy this day, so I didn't go to far and went back to fish. I caught and lost a walleye on the first cast. Then Dan caught a small one, and a larger one. We decided to keep the larger one for lunch. We fished around for a while, then went and checked out the site that is supposed to be a 5 star site. I didn’t see it. I know it was all wet, but it seemed a little closed in to me and there were 4 big pine trees that had snapped in half, probably last year, that took up a lot of space. We paddled back to camp and started working on getting lunch/ dinner together. We had fried walleye, dried mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli with cheese. Good dinner, but it took a lot of prep and cleanup. It was still overcast and a little rainy. We decided to stay another day to see if we could have at least one sunny day on Emerald.
