Day 2 of 5
Monday, August 21, 2017 We slept in a bit and decided to get on the water in order to make up time from our short stop. Our second night was scheduled to be on one of the Cone lakes. We crossed over Winchell, then to Wanhigan and Cliff lakes, and then finally to North Cone lake. Unfortunately, every camp site that we saw along the way was taken. I was surprised, but I suppose people must have been making the easy trip up from Brule and trying to get one or two lakes off the entry point. One of my friends lost our map in the water, but I still had my old phone to use with the maps downloaded onto it, and we had printed off a few quadrangles. By the time we got to South Cone lake it was night time, so we asked some gentlemen at the island campsite there if they would mind sharing with us. They were wary to share their campsite with 6 people, but told us that they had very recently moved from a campsite on Brule which should still be open. Sure enough, it was, and we got there just in time. Just after we had our tarps and tents up it started raining and hardly let up for the rest of the night.~Omega Lake, Winchell Lake, Wanihigan Lake, Cliff Lake, North Cone Lake, Middle Cone Lake, South Cone Lake, Brule Lake
