Tuesday, August 02, 2011 Another nice day and the four of us made a day trip to Brent Lake. We walked the 200 rod portage along the rapids and pools of the Darky River. There was one waterfall which was a great spot to swim and relax in the deluge. We also encountered a pair of beavers on one of the ponds.

By this point in the trip, we were noticing the lack of moose and moose sign. We had not seen any moose poop and only old track after 4 days. Last year's trip was also a bust for moose. Is the population in decline like what has happened in NW MN?

Blueberries were almost non-existent this year. Last year was bountiful but hardly a berry to be found this year. We live in Warroad and it is the same situation here. It appears that the late frost hit just as the plants were setting flowers.

That afternoon was windy so we hunkered down in camp and read. In the evening, the wind died and I caught a nice walleye 50 yards from camp pulling a plug. It is amazing in the color difference between fish from Darky to Argo. There is a reason it is called Darky Lake.
