Wednesday, August 03, 2011 Wednesday broke calm and we are off down the Darky River to Minn Lake. This portion of the trip was new to me so I was especially looking forward to today. The river was a nice paddle broken by short portages around scenic rapids. The lower half of the river broadened out with a lot of marsh and black spruce along the edges. Great moose habitat but none to be seen.

A small set of rapids dumps us into Minn Lake. I have to say I was a bit disappointed with Minn. Attractive campsites were limited with some on the abused (trashy) side. We did find a high site on the southwest end of the north basin. Water access for the site was not the best but the view was quite nice. A pair of very vocal loons and their two offspring added to the ambiance.

Fishing was poor that evening with a 7 lb. northern the only catch (returned) other than small bass. We covered a large portion of the north basin but found little structure and mostly shallow flats. Another fishless evening meal. Tomorrow's fishing plans would not include Minn Lake.
