Day 8 of 14
Tuesday, June 18, 2013 Shoved off at 5:30. I decided to take the dry, steep portage to Marge Lake. It turns out to be easier than expected. The tough portage on this day is the one from Joyce to Kashahpiwi. I took plenty of photos of Joyce Lake. It's a very pretty lake, and bears the same name as my beloved mother-in-law. She'll be thrilled to see her namesake lake.

I arrived at Kashahpiwi at 12:30. I decide to head south to one of the campsites in the SE arm of the lake. This is really a beautiful lake. Much of the east shore through the middle stretch of the lake shows signs of a recent burn. I'm wondering if the fire burned all of McNiece Lake, and whether some big timber survived. Since I don't have time to take a leisurely fishing tour of Kawnipi and Agnes lakes, I decide to go to McNiece and camp there for a couple days, testing the fishing in some of the less popular smaller lakes. But first, I intend to soak in this dramatic, gorgeous lake.
