July 27 – Into the Poets - We broke camp and moved, as the weather had broken a bit. We had a long hard paddle into the wind, rain, and cold. We found a camp on Shelly and were very grateful. I built a very welcome fire and, though it was small, we were warmed by the idea of it. I was really confused as to our location, which J said was appropriate as Shelly’s poetry is confusing. I learned something about dead trees. I took down a dead tree so we could set up our hammocks safely. I did not realize that the top of a tree rots before the bottom. The tree hit some branches and the top third came back at me. It caught me with a hard blow to my left shoulder. I was lucky that it was only a good bruise.
