July 28 – The weather turns - J figured out Shelly. After a bit of futile paddling, he took another look at the map and was convinced that we were close to the portage into Keats. We took his route and went right to the portage. By the time we got there, the weather had done a 180 to sunny and warm. The large group of YMCA girls, on a 17 day trip, really lifted my son’s spirits. We had a pleasant paddle though Keats and Chatterton and went into Russell. We camped on Russell in sight of Chatterton Falls, warmed up, dried our equipment out, and determined to stay a couple of nights and fish the next day. We hiked up Chatterton Falls and very much enjoyed them. We watched a couple of Osprey fish the upper part of the rapids.
