Part 4 of 9
Sunday, July 28. The day dawned overcast, but without the sound of the roaring wind in the tree tops that was our constant companion for the last two days. We are going to be able to move off our beach and find a real campsite! We packed up all our wet gear and the leaky tent and loaded the canoes. Incidentally, one of the first things we did when we came out at the end of the trip was to find the first trash dumpster to deposit the tent in! As we paddled north and east on Quetico Lake, the weather began to improve and the sun came out. We soon found a beautiful site for a lunch break, that quickly turned into a decision to go no further and set up camp with a line to dry out our clothes and sleeping bags. From experiencing the worst Quetico can offer in July to the best! The site was perfect, a great landing, breezy view that kept the bugs down and dried clothes, a nice rock fire place, plus we caught fish off the rocks at the site. The sunset was beautiful, calm winds, and the sound of the loon's cry replaced the roar of the wind in the tree tops that was all we could hear our first two nights. What a difference a day makes! Now I knew why I had come!
