Day 6 of 13
Friday, September 09, 2016 The day is gorgeous this morning. No wind and blue sky. I put on the shorts for traveling today. My journal says “I only had four portages today but going out of Joyce and into Kahshahpiwi there are two back to back ball busters. My hips are giving me trouble again and the small pack with the canoe are just too much and I end up almost triple portaging these two portages.” Rocks and bogs are the order of the day. I notice the landings are shallow too.

Luna has trouble hopping out onto the rocks at some of them. One time she slipped and her chest really slammed down on a rock. She froze and looked at me with a worried expression before gathering herself. I think the pad on her chest from the PFD really saved her here.

I get on “Kahsh” and look for a site. I’m feeling really beat up now. The first site going north is in the burn area and looks exposed and creepy. I cross the lake and take the small island site by the north bay. Very nice! Everything is great here except the landing. I hear thunder and see a dark wall of clouds to my west so get camp set as fast as I can. It never rains and the sun comes out in the evening.
