Monday, July 02, 2018 - Fishing the 2nd slough

After some exploring of the slough, we catch three descent pike and filet them for our 1st fish dinner. As planned, we cook them “poor man’s lobster style” figuring this would be an easy way to cook fish quickly without giving off a lot of odor as we would normally do with using Shorelunch and butter flavored Crisco in our BWCA square aluminum frying pan. We are all pleasantly surprised that the fish tastes pretty darn good cooked in this fashion.

We got into some nice pike right at the inlet to the slough from the river. My brother had a five pound pike that he hooked go airborne and actually land right in his lap in the canoe….. he was most thankful that we cut the treble hooks down to single hooks before the trip!
