Monday, July 09, 2018 - Onward to our final camp

We break camp and start a long day of moving downriver to our final camp. This is another tough paddle day filled with wind and heavy rains. Below is a picture of our campsite to give you an appreciation of just how muddy the camp was… lots of standing water. One of the benefits of camping on mud is that for 12 days not a single guy complained about having a rock or a root under their area of the tent!

As we left the slough, we fished the mouth one last time. Chris catches his personal best northern pike of 21.6 lbs and 43 inches.

We had high hopes of fishing a river that enters the Innoko about half way to our endpoint; I had talked this spot up telling the guys that if we are to catch a salmon this trip, this river will be where it happens. As it turned out, the river was just like the Innoko, slow and muddy… not ideal salmon water. We fished it for an hour or so and did catch a nice bunch of pike up to maybe 15 lbs or so.

As we pull into our final slough, Chris catches an 18 lb pike and Steve catches a 20.5 lb pike. Hoping to have a prime campsite for our last camp on the Innoko, we search the entire slough looking for something other than swampy land. We are unsuccessful and make camp on another mucky area.

We end the day with 11 pike over 10 lbs.
