Thursday, August 31, 2017 A little foggy again this morning, but it's going to get nice. Today we part ways with butthead. He has had his own permit plus he has a permit to re-enter BW and will solo his way back to Seagull along the border. Kip, Sunny and myself will head for Louisa, McEwen and eventually backtrack our way to Cache Bay/Hook Island. After pancakes and hash browns, we said goodbye to Ken and headed for Louisa Falls. That is quite a portage. Saw "the tub" and viewed the Falls and then headed up Louisa into a slight north wind that would switch over the day. Had lunch on the big island site on Louisa....nice site. There was a float plane and some boats in Louisa doing a fish study. Went through the little lakes of Arp and Star.....had to hunt slightly for portages, and eventually into Fauquier. It was now a south wind and we were pretty beat while checking for campsites. The big mid-lake one is on a rocky hill and was not appealing. We settled on the NW site which looks like it does not get used much. Kip had to pitch a dead tree out of the middle to make some room. The south wind was blowing in and conditions were right for fishing. We caught nice chunky smallies on about every cast for quite a while. That lake must be loaded with them. Got kind of cool that night as we settled into our little "make do" camp.
