Day 6 of 8
Thursday, Day seven, fifth day on the water. More challenges with some tough portages. Passed some old cabins including what looked like a camp of some sort. Small individual cabins with what looked like common dining facility. I wondered how the campers got there. Were they all fly in, paddle in or was there a secret road to the place. No one was there but it had my interest. I forgot to ask the outfitter. We ended on Douglas lake this night but couldn’t find a decent camp site. Found a small one but at best it would hold two tents. I saw a person in a small outboard boat fishing. I stopped him and asked about the camp sites. He didn’t know. He worked at a Fishing Lodge in the NW part of Douglas Lake and was out for the evening to fish. So we decided to camp on a sandy beach. This was the last night so I didn’t want to take everything out. I figured the sand would be soft. OMG was I wrong. Under the tent the sand was like sleeping on cement. Lesson learned, take time to prepare my sleeping area.
