Day 7 of 8
Friday, Day eight, sixth day on the water While I was asking for directions, the other canoe found the hidden “river” out of Douglas we would have to take in the morning. They lead the way that morning. It twisted and turned through tall grass. Hard to see anything else but the water in front of you. Unfortunately we missed our turn and ended up on a tiny portage. We should have been taking a 200 meter portage to the north. This was a 25 meter portage facing south. Before we took off I pulled out the map and showed everyone where I thought we ended up. Back we went and found the cut off. I’m happy to say this was the only wrong turn we took the whole trip. Make it to Johnson Lake and only had to wait about an hour for our shuttle. When we returned to the Outfitter there was a couple that didn’t show up at their pick up point and after a second day the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) were called in. They had the float planes looking for them and were about to launch a couple helicopters. We heard the couple was found that day. They never lost a group yet.
