Day 6 of 8
Thursday, June 20, 2019 When we started the trip, I was trying to minimize the number of portages for my father-in-law because getting in and out of the canoe and then traversing the portage is getting more difficult. This meant the original itinerary had us retracing our path back to Prairie Portage. However, since we left Kawnipi a day earlier than planned, we had a little extra wiggle room so we decide to take the s-chain back south.

We left camp at 9:25, caught many lakers on the relatively short paddle to the portage and kept three for dinner. In the three days we fished on Agnes, we caught many dozens of lake trout between us which matched my previous Agnes experience and led to the title of this trip report.

We saw a multitude of lady slippers (my father-in-law's favorite flower) on one fo the portages. I don't remember the exact number, but it was about 15 I think.

We arrived at camp on Shade about 3:00. Because we hadn't planned to travel the s-chain, I had 't done any advance research on camp sites. However, I had downloaded the Quetico campsites' GPS coordinates and ratings from another site. For the first time ever, I used a GPS app on my phone while in canoe country to find us a campsite - and a nice one at that thanks to paddler reviews/ratings.

We set up camp and I took my nephew out for an hour of fishing. While I could paddle endlessly, he's not very fond of it (grew up with motorized boats) and much prefers fishing over paddling and portaging. We kept a northern for breakfast and threw back a few small smallies.

Yet another day of spectacular weather with fair-weather cumulus clouds against a blue sky and light ENE breeze.
