Day 7 of 8
Friday, June 21, 2019 Left camp at 9:40 on our way to Burke. This was the first day we had to deal with anything that could be called wind. Fortunately, it was out of the E at about 10mph as we crossed North Bay, but it was gusting to at least 20mph as we paddled paddled down Burke. At least we were paddling straight into it so the steering wasn't difficult.

On a prior trip we'd had good laker fishing on Burke. This time, we paddled the entire north-south length and caught only one. While we sent my father-in-law and nephew to set up camp, my wife and I decided to make another pass in hopes of a dinner that would satisfy all of us, including my nephew's endless 16-year old appetite.

We drifted downwind and just as we were about to give up my wife caught the final and largest fish of the trip. When I saw the size of the laker as it surfaced, I wished we could keep it so I could smoke it when I got home, but we needed dinner. I was also worried that we wouldn't be able to eat it all since we only keep what we know we can eat.

Alas, we managed to eat all of both fish except a couple small, think pieces of belly meat -- I don't think any of us can believe how much fish we ate that final night, but we sure enjoyed it!
