The Long Trip
by Spartan2
Layover day
We got up in dripping drizzle about 7:45, with ravens scolding overhead. The temperature in the tent was 43 degrees. It had rained lightly all night and there was some moisture along one side, but basically the tent was dry and comfortable.
Neil soon had a smoky fire going and we enjoyed hot breakfast. It really helped on a damp morning. [Notice the TANG in the picture.]
This isn't a grassy site, so there was dirt and mud to contend with. The mist on the lake made for a pretty view, and it stopped raining for a couple hours before beginning again. Neil was in the tent reading his book again before I was done scrubbing the pots! I had finished my first book and was waiting for him to finish his so that we could switch.
The ravens cried incessantly and that began to get on my nerves, being cooped up in the tent all day.
We took a short evening paddle and by the time we returned it was sprinkling again. This wasn't a great day.
