The Long Trip

3 lakes, two portages
Rain all day. We were up at 6:30, had a quick breakfast and broke camp in overcast conditions. The rain began just as we started canoeing.
Paddled down Sawbill to the stream and portage to Kelso Lake (very pretty grassy area). After the 13-rod portage we canoed down Kelso and took another short portage (10 rods) to Alton Lake. We looked at two campsites on Alton, and the one we chose was very pretty. It was high up on a point, with a lake view.
We spent the afternoon in a WET tent, trying to stay warm and comfortable. We even ate our lunch in the tent.
I did take some photos at this site. [I think you could say the theme was "GRAY".]
A little clearing at 5:30 didn't last, but it was pleasant and made me hopeful for more. Clothing, pads, etc. were in various stages of dampness and I feared a terribly uncomfortable night, but it is amazing how warm you can stay with the right kind of gear, even if it is wet!
It was a calm evening and we spent some time watching fish jumping in the lake.
