Day 6 of 7
Saturday, June 23, 2007 10 miles and 9 portages. Paul Lake, river, Elephant Head Lake, Boot Jack Lake, river, Bunny Lake. Got up early to a beautiful sunrise and calm lake. Went out for a solo paddle to do a little morning fishing. Couldn't concentrate on the fishing and ended up paddling slowly around and taking pictures. Warmed up early today and we left camp without our shirts on. Nice paddle down the length of Paul lake and then 7 short portages in a row to get to Elephant head lake. Checked out a couple of campsites on Boot Jack but not very appealing. Decided to push on to Bunny Lake and camped on a small Island. Biting flies were bad today. Took a dip to cool off and went out after the Bunny lakers and pike. Caught only two northerns. Crawled into our tents at about 10:00(dusk) and were woken at about 11:30 by a severe T-storm. Wind, rain and lighting. No real big trees on Island to blow over and tent was pitched on bare rock so we enjoyed the show from our tent. When the storm passed we heard some wolves and I believe a caribou? Maybe the wolves were on the hunt?
