Planning a solo trip for May to Clearwater lake and mountain lake, family trip in June to Fall lake Pipestone Bay and basswood, a trip to Voyageurs national Park in July and another trip in September with a new paddling group. I hope everyone has a great New Year and safe travels for 2023 |

I'll be returning with my son in late May for my 7th and his 2nd trip. I've officially given up on trying to drag my wife and teenage daughter into the wilderness proper, so instead we're doing a week on Crane lake in August. That will be good as we'll have the whole family together, adult kids and significant others included. I'll sneak a fall solo in as well, I really love it up there in late sept or October. Weather and work always make the timing on that one interesting. |

2022 had eye surgery, did Scout camp, then caught COVID, which cancelled my Q trip and my scouting hiking Isle Royale. 2023 Hoping to get back on track…hitting IA, Rathbun Lake pre MN opener to scratch the fishing itch early, Scout Spring Camporee, Scout Camp Riply 1st week of June, then on to Kabby 2nd week of June, Scout camp in late July, leading a BWCAW high adventure crew for scouts in August—-have 2 groups going, which is the most we’ve had ever…One group starting at Lake One and one at Snowbank. Still trying to get a Family Q trip in to French Lake in early July…thank goodness I’ve worked at the same company forever and have a lot of PTO :) |

Solo in late May, then a trip with my daughter in June. Had to cancel all my remains permits as I’m working in China July/Aug/Sept. I’ll be up again Oct 1st if I have my way. Enjoy paddling! |

In 2022 I missed out on a BWCA trip for the first time since I was 12 years old. Between finishing up graduate school, having our first child, and an Achilles tear I could not swing a trip. Was able to get in some awesome hiking in Glacier over the mid summer during a family trip though. In 2023 I am planning for a big week long fishing trip with some high school and college friends. Early June the 8 of us will be hitting up LLC. Then I am sure many other day and overnight trips on Northeast Wisconsin lakes and rivers chasing fish. |

Four trips planned again this year. May 30 solo to Quetico July trip with son and son in law to Quetico August trip to Quetico with the "young guys" I used to work with before I retired. September trip to Quetico with my son as a blended solo trip where we will camp some nights together and some nights not. Quetico. I can not wait to return for another year. Like sand slipping through an hour glass my time traveling the woods and water of Quetico is growing a bit more slippery every passing year. But for now Paddle On!!! |

tomo: "Present. Tomo, Happy 2023 to you too. Sounds like you had a great 2022 and this year's plans sound wonderful too. I'm not sure I have the correct person but did you buy a solo boat from me a couple years ago? If so, still have it and how do you like it? I'm still here but don't get out paddling. Hoping for some day trips with close friends this year. I'm working on getting a small group of paddling friends camping near the bwca and doing some day trips near or in bwca. We've been doing an annual memorial camping &paddling gathering for about 10 years in various places including the Namekagon, Brule, Sylvania Wilderness and even bwca [mainly been either a pre-actual DB Memorial Paddle Gathering or only very few attending (not me)]. Hope to get other former paddling partners together too for North Shore and day paddles. Happy New Year to all on bwca.com! |

Making a trip in early March for a long weekend at Gunflint Lodge to see what kinds of things we can find in all the snow! Would like to do some ice fishing and snowshoeing. May have to see if some of the younger folks from the 15 trips we took back in the 70s & 80s might be interested. Trouble is they all have families with young kids and typically are tied up with other sports activities. May just have to drive up and get out for a day or two. |

Planning a trip to Quetico in late June in a different area than last 2 times. I don't like covering the same area much, unless there are more options for slightly different routes. We're excited that it is open again. BWCAW is great, but there was too much competition for campsites last time and the stress of finding a decent open site didn't make for a very relaxing trip. It may be better now since Quetico is open. Thanks to everyone for helping people find their place in the wilderness and increasing the odds for a safe and happy trip! |

We will be at Rockwood for our yearly cabin week with Chicago friends in July too... I hope we'll overlap with your week, it would be great to see you again. |

This year my goal is to try some new destinations. Instead of our annual September boat camping trip in the Chippewa National Forest, I think it's time to give Voyageurs a try. Also, my big girl is getting up there in age, she's been winter camping a half dozen times in the BW, but has never experienced a canoe trip. I think I've found a destination that I could manage her size in my solo for a quick trip next Oct. Duff |

I will be back again in 2023 for at least two 2-week solos in May and September. In May, I’m looking to do a Louse, Lady Chain loop. I have an RABC permit so I’m thinking Quetico in September. If I can get a small group together, I may do something in August. |

Still lurking. Still dreaming. (photo of me on a dead calm Brule Lake) I come back to this one often. No clue what this year will bring but I'm still feeling I can handle "a few more" trips. Last year at 72 was asked to join a group that wanted to FISH and was so looking forward to it. Best way to make God laugh is to make plans I figure since a few weeks before the trip a medical issue forced me out. The window is closing but I still hold out hope. My Sawyer Guide Special saw the water and I found fish near home but... not the same. Best wishes to all. May all trips be safe ones. Bapabear |

On a tour of the SW with my girlfriend right now- Santa Fe, San Diego, Tucson. 3 BWCA trips planned so far....7 day solo in early july, 2 wk trip with my son at the end of july, and 3 days on Slim with my girlfriend in September. The canoe stable is now up to 5, since I got my brother's Northern Paddler Sportsman 12.6. Mostly just hanging on to it in case one of his kids wants it some day. |

*June trip to Wood Lake with 15 year old little duckling for our annual daddy/daughter trip starting when she was 5. I plan on getting the permit on opening day for the first time ever. Actually, The earliest I’ve ever booked a permit is April and that was 15 years ago. *July trip to Kawishiwi Lake campground with 4 year old Bruin for his second father/son trip to the edge of the bwca. Next year will be his 1st bwca trip. *August stay in a Rockwood cabin with the whole family for some hiking, canoeing, and kayaking. *October stay at Nelson’s in Grand Marais for our 15h annual family trip for Moose Madness and Gunflint Trail exploring for the extended MEA weekend. For both girls this is their favorite family tradition. Hopefully in October I can find a nice weekend to fit in a spur of the moment solo with our dog Echo like I did this year over Halloween weekend. |

My two oldest daughters, juniors in college, and I will hopefully find time for a 10-day bwca excursion. Also planning a week-long trip with my two youngest daughters, ages 11 and 9, and we are thinking of doing a simple loop trip somewhere in the bwca. My two teenage daughters have decided they are too busy this summer for a bwca trip...deep sigh...hopefully just a one-year hiatus. Planning a week of day trips with my Dad for fishing and photography and we'll truck/tent camp this year for comfort and ease, probably northern Wisconsin or bwca day-trips. Most importantly, I am grateful Momma Yeti and I get to take them all for a week together on the Oregon coast in June. For me, it doesn't get any better than family time together. |

In addition to the BW trips we plan more car camping/hiking/backpacking in state parks and national/state forests which are hidden gems in many cases. Hopefully a few more rounds of golf too. My wife is 7 years younger than me and is going to have to work at least another 5 years...oh the agony. Lots of time for me to play. Actually there is a downside to this too because we would love to spend parts of winter in warmer climates but it will be awhile. She is very gracious in allowing me time to be in the woods, bless her heart. Thinking this might be tested in retirement:) LIS 14 in late May, another trip late August to early September, destination yet to be determined. All is mostly well, feeling my age and need to work on improving overall well being. Definitely a project for early 2023. No date set yet for retirement, thinking mid June to October 1st. Get 6 weeks paid vacation June 3rd and that's definitely worth sticking around for. Good health, fulfilling adventures and happiness to you all, a great community. |

Still here and kicking. I retired this year with many plans of trips to the B-Dub! These guys are my travel buddies, (my sons) and 2023 was going to be the year of introduction of this wonderful land and water to my 6 year old Grandson, but we will have to postpone for another year. That will make 4 Grandkids to plan for the future trips while I am still "young". Peace, Doug |

Fingers crossed here are my 2023 canoe country plans: Week in June with Luft ... out and back from Kawishiwi with stops on Polly and River Lake and perhaps Fishdance Lake. July cabin week at Rockwood - yearly adventure with our friends from Chicago. August week long family trip - loop from Red Rock to American Point. A trip we had to jettison last summer because hubby needed shoulder surgery. Surgery done and rehab is well on its way. And... I have high hopes for more trips but no idea how I will pull them off. I have been blessed to spend many long weekends up the Gunflint Trail and in the BW but that may not be in the cards for me in 2023. So good to see so many people still here after all these years. Happy New Year One and All :-) |

Here, raising a paddle to all those who are still with us and to those who have paddled on. Definitely doing the September Boarder Route Trip and trying to work in a few more trips for the 2023 season! I'll take what I can get! Every mile makes me smile! |

Still hanging around as well, just a lot more busy than I used to be. With the kids hitting their teenage years, I feel like we have the pedal to the floor trying to maximize our time with them before they're gone. Planning on going to the BW in June with another family as we have for the last several years, destination unknown. Also planning a road trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton to get our hike on. |

Gonna do at least 2 trips this year, one solo and one tandem. Looking at no-portage/low-portage routes. Sawbill to Alton is OK, anything more than that is probably too much. It's the landings which are daunting for old guys. We can't vault out of the boat into knee deep water and slippery rocks anymore. I can still paddle all day and carry the kevlar canoes OK, so I am not ready to give up the wonderful BW yet. Eager to hear from listmates their experience with age appropriate routes and sites. Paddle on. |

March 10: Canoecopia May--St. Croix River for a couple nights solo June 1: Snowbank to Fraser-Thomas and wherever else the paddle takes us. (Two of us: 23 year old son and me) 7 days. June 21: Couple days on Sawmill and Loyhead Primitive Canoe Routes in Northern Wisconsin Solo July 9: Kawishiwi Triangle-Gabbro-Bald Eagle and wherever else the paddle causes us to roam. 7 days ( 6 of us including 78 year old dad, uncle, cousin, and friends) August 4: LIS, to Loon and back. 4 days (6 church friends) Sept 5: 5 days East Bearskin. Solo: We'll see where the paddle leads. I really love to not have a specific agenda or plan other than where I enter and when I leave. |

As for the big trips, I'm still planning on doing a week trip up to BW sometime in August, probably some kind of local river trip over memorial day weeekend, and probably a week or two overlanding and camping our way through some part of the country in the fall. Hope you all are well, and can't wait to get planning again here soon. Cheers, Atrain |

I didn't do much paddling last year but may make up for it this year. I applied for a volunteer wilderness ranger gig in my old stomping grounds on the Tofte Ranger District. I'll see what happens. Linden |

I had a great backcountry year in 2022: 5-day backpacking trip in Canyonlands with my 14 year old, third annual 3-day bwca brotherly bonding trip, a week spent crossing the bwca with my 17 year old, and 24 luxurious days solo in Wabakimi. I doubt 2023 will measure up, but I’m hoping for another canoe trip with my soon to be 18 year old, a 25th wedding anniversary trip with my lovely bride, and perhaps a short solo. Happy 2023! |

Planning two solo trips this year. First in June, Baker Lake. Then another in September, not sure where yet. Happy New Years everyone. |

I am retiring from MN amateur baseball this year (can't compete with kids 30+ years younger than me) so will have more time for paddling! Currently planning annual cousin trip in June entering on LISN EP#14. I think we are going to Beatty portage and then follow Lac La Croix around the top and up and over a bit. I would plan more, but plans always change after the Canoe gets wet! Only thing that never changes is the EP and Date! Also hoping to do a solo (unless someone volunteers to save me from that agony) to Stuart lake (probably my favorite spot in the BWCA) and maybe trying to get an overnight to Sterling sometime in Sept. paddling the Moosecamp - Really beautiful when the water floats the canoe. |

We've got 10 days but I find I like a relaxed pace. I'll probably even take the tow! Hawaii, road trips and camping in the Redwoods before that. I'm also seriously looking at a used canoe and start exploring around here. Besides using it to get in shape on the slough down the street. C-ya out in the wild! |

Just need a trip in the wilderness. Need to catch a couple of walleye and smell the pines. Hear the loons and the beaver slap the water. |

flytyer: "Flytyer still here...at age 81 (in April) planning a trip. With a Biventricular pacemaker and A-fib am still wanting to go. It will be an easier trip with limited short portages. I want to be like you! May your trip include lots of walleye, pines, loons, and beaver! TZ |

Hey, I'm still here! Took a beating last fall on our trip and am still feeling it! Will have to plan a less aggressive trip this year, or maybe not at all. Can't imagine not having the BWCA in my life, though. |

Had no huge trips this past year, first Wenonah joined the family. Mostly local day paddles and a few days on the Wisco. Also began construction of a raft to for adventures ahead. Looking forward to a couple great trips in the next year. For sure planning on the Lower Canyons of the Rio Grande in December and a good chance of returning to the BWCA this June after a two year hiatus. |
