A Fork in the Trail by Laurie Ann March. A lot of good recipes and explicite directions for dehydrating etc.

I have this book and it's excellent. You'd have to buy the ingredients since you don't have a dehydrator, but if you do much backcountry cooking I would recommend getting one. They're a good investment.

I've also used this guy's recipes, and they're very good.

Welcome to the Flying Moose, Beechy!

I have found the BWCA Food and Recipes Forum to be a tremendous resource. Lots of great recipes, instructions on unique nuances, and plenty of folks willing to provide additional details if you need clarification. Good eats here and even better people. :)

Hockhocking: "My favorite, if you can find it, is The Hungry Hiker’s Book of Good Cooking, by Gretchen McHugh. I also second the recommendations for Kevin Ride’s book.
"

I found a copy on Amazon! Thanks!

I have a couple books already mentioned, and am enjoying dehydrating to make my meals.

I like recipes in the Dirty Gourmet, with a mix of both "car camping" and backpacking meals.

Second on the Backpacking Chef books. I bought all of his cooking books and the workbook too. I’ll likely be purchasing others to change it up a bit, but he’s a great resource to start.

Hello all! I am looking for recommendations for Backcountry Cookbooks. I do not have my own dehydrator, but I can purchase dehydrated food. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What are you looking to make or improve upon? Breakfasts, fish fry, reflector oven baking??

Excellent! I just checked out his website too. Lots of great info on dehydrating as well. Thanks!

I am mostly interested in dinners and lunches. We have the fish fry mastered. Just trying to find alternatives to rice and foil pouches of chicken or potatoes and chicken for dinner. Since we go for so long, everyone gets sick of eating the same thing over and over. I would love to learn some dehydrated lunch recipes for different wrap fillers. Not really interested in solar oven cooking (not yet anyway). When I go backpacking solo, I used to buy Pack-It-Gourmet, I would love to make meals like that. I wish I could buy them, but with such a big group, it is cost prohibitive.
