We have not been up the Stuart River in a number of years. We are finally going again in August and I remember that the last portage into Stuart Lake had a “short-cut”. Could someone refresh my memory as to where it is? Also, if anyone has been up the Stuart lately, let us know how the mud is at the end of the long first portage. |

Great EP as you know since you have already been. Regarding the mud, if there is high water or you have had good rains prior to going in, there is an option for early put-in (see picture below). When we went in June 2018, it had rained for several days so the water at the portage crossing where I show the early-put in was waist high and you could easily put in and get on the river. I have seen pictures from others where this is almost dry so it depends on the water levels. Have a great trip!! |
