I recently decided to take a solo trip 9/21 - 9/29. Since I have much less time than normal to plan, I figured I would turn to you all for some advice on where to go. This will be my 4th BWCA trip and previously I've done: 1. clearwater loop from EP62 2. EP30 through numbered lakes to Alice, back through Snowbank 3. EP 16 out to the border and back Looking for a new area to explore. What has the best scenery that I haven't seen so far? Scenery would be my #1 priority, #2 solitude. I won't be fishing. I'll be looking for a loop of around 80-110 miles, ideally with an outfitter that I can launch directly from without having to schlep the canoe on my car. TIA! |

A little shorter mile-wise, but lots of good exploring to do and 27 portages. Ought to be stunning in the fall. |

Entry 37 and go north to Makwa Lake for this Now I didn't do this next part but you could either go east or west and then south to connect back to Malberg. Personally I would go east. So with that I would go up to Little Sag (I guess the map sometimes shows Ecstasy Lake) then down to Whipped and Hub Lake. Down to Mesaba and Kelso through Alton and onto Beth/Grace/Phoebe and then back to Polly and then south to your vehicle. I'll map the distance for you too :) Looks about 50 miles....based on straight lines ;) but re reading before posting and see the not wanting to strap a canoe.... so start at Sawbill head through alton/wine/mora and then kind of reverse what I wrote. Not quite as far as you mentioned though you could add day trips in there. Makwa cliff was pretty amazing. Polly is a very pretty lake. I have heard amazing things about Little Sag. Overall that general area is my favorite and would highly recommend it. |

I've done EP16 to the border. Great area and for scenery you'd have awesome pictos and warrior hill on lac la croix, Gebe is great, and Curtain falls on Iron is a must see if you're that close. |
