I think there are several BWCA realities and rules that could be problematic: Only 4 canoes are allowed per 9 people. So, obviously, not everyone is going to have their own canoe. Given all the duplicated gear, the portages could be an ordeal. Single portaging is most likely not going to happen. Who portages the canoe? 9 food stashes/hangs? I can hear the bears now - Borgaschmord!!!!! I would venture to guess that 95% of campsites are not able to accommodate 9 tents or even a mixture of 9 tents, tarps/leanto's and/or hammocks? Most campsites are lucky to have even 2 or 3 tent pads. How would a campsite accommodate 9 people trying to cook food at once? Fires or stoves? etc. Is everyone expected to bring their own cook tarp? Wood saw/hatchet? Other seemingly unnecessary duplications? Several LNT principals are certain to be at least stretched to the limit. Is the point of the trip self-sufficiency (as might be indicated by everyone having their "own gear") or is the point of the trip to work through all the above as a group? I am not saying it "couldn't" be done, but there do seem to be some extenuating circumstances to be worked through. |
