09/23/2014 01:42PM That is quite a long haul for winter camping. The best part of winter camping is you don't have to go far for complete solitude. Remember also, if you get a major snow storm, or if ice conditions change, it can bring you to almost a complete stop. I've traveled into the number lakes with great ice/weather in a few hours only to take two full days, with maximum effort, to get out. |

05/18/2014 06:44AM I just started winter camping this past season and am planning ahead for bigger adventures. I would like to make a 3-4 night trip into Quetico for lake trout fishing somewhere around Cache Bay next March. Has anyone done this? I would be interested in details and advice, especially on how to travel... do you get a tow to Hook Island via snowmobile or pull sleds the entire distance? I'd rather not spend 2 days traveling in and 2 days traveling out. Outfitters who provide winter camper assistance? Any suggestions or alternatives would be helpful. At this point, my mind says Quetico, not BWCA. |
