08/09/2017 07:52PM I am going during that week also and it will be our latest trip yet. We paddle in to a base camp on the first day and fish all week and take another day to exit. We always catch a lot of fish but we bring other food just in case because you work up quite an appetite out there fighting the elements all day. We usually base camp on basswood lake and catch plenty of smallmouth bass and enough walleye to eat. We also catch more northerns than we care to and also lose a lot of baits to them. Good luck! |

08/09/2017 11:47AM If you aren't picky about your fish, you may get enough 12 to 14 in smallmouth to help. Just to let you know, by Aug 25 the Pine Lake walleye have seen a lot of lures as it seems to be a big basecamping destination for fishermen. Add to that late Aug is not always a hot time for a walleye bite as a usual summer of plenty keep ol' marbleyes fat and happy. If I were you, I would bring along enough food for plan B. |

08/08/2017 05:25PM Ep1 trout lake - go to pine, a lot of eater walleyes. Can also go to Chad or buck (which is packed with walleyes) we went up buck creek and back down in one day- what an adventure. Caught 3 walleyes 16"-18" in 30 mins at buck lake around the island on west side of lake.. saw a moose carcass abt 45 mins up buck creek from pine lake. Pine also has some good bluegills in it |

08/08/2017 02:19PM My two brothers, dad and I are heading to the BWCA in a few weeks. We are planning to be on the water Aug 25-30. This will be our 2nd trip there but we are all experienced fisherman and canoers. We fully intend on using the fish we catch as our sole source of food other than snacks and maybe some rice for side dishes. The first time we went we used an outfitter to come up with our route and while it was a blast we were looking for something that included more fishing opportunities. The amount of miles we had to cover and lengthy portages left very little time for fishing. We still ate 90% fish for our meals. Im looking for some route suggestions that have a heavy emphasis on walleye fishing. Not looking for anyone's honey holes, just good numbers of eater walleyes. We also enjoy catching bass or perch, pike we dont particularly care for unless they are really big. We'll be camping 5 nights so would either like shorter days traveling between sites to allow for fishing or a few good spots where we can spend a couple days at a site before moving on. We are not particular to any certain area or put in site of the BWCA but obviously less busy and less motor traffic the better. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
