Earlier this month I posted on the Listening Point forum a recommendation for a book entitled "Where You"ll Find Me," by Ty Gagne. It was about the death of a young women winter climbing in New Hampshire's White Mountains. Last year Gagne published a similar book, "The Last Traverse: Tragedy and Resilience in the Winter Whites." (TMC Books, 2020). It details the hike of two friends in February 2008. They are caught out by a fast moving storm and one succumbs while the other is rescued through a heroic Search and Rescue effort. There are a number of lessons to be gleaned from both books about preparation, risk analysis and they are both paens to the SAR community. Well worth a look by anyone venturing outdoors, which is why we are here.
