I want to recommend a book I am re-reading. It is not about canoeing, camping or anything like that. It is about leadership. Leadership is important in our personal lives as well as our professional lives. We NEED competent leaders!!

We need competent leaders in BWCA and other remote areas to teach and encourage LNT ethics. We need competent leaders in the BWCA to be good role models for rookies AND experienced trippers . Competent leaders will decrease emergency situations, reduce campsite degradation, and help preserve this precious area. Individual attitudes and decisions make a difference!

Steel My Soldiers’ Hearts is a book by Colonel David H. Hackworth and his transformation of the 4th Battalion, 39th Infantry in Vietnam. The transformation of individual and group morale is an outstanding account that present and future leaders should read and ponder. Check it out.

Hackworth is legendary for speaking truth to power. He always gets mentioned by Jocko Willink as being a mentor. Hackworth was an amazing fellow. A great American and leader of men.
