Renting a cabin in a few weeks and after a long drive really dont want to cook the first day. Was thinking of picking up a pizza any recommendations? Or a gd take out option? 3 weeks from today can't wait

There is a dominos pizza though if looking for something besides that, The Boathouse has pizza (I’ve not tried it so I cannot comment on how it is though I’d assume it is good).
Have a great trip!

I was going to suggest Sir Gs for pizza, but it appears they are closed and it was for sale last fall. My favorite place in Ely was The Steakhouse but it sounds like that may be closed as well. During the covid times of no sit down service we also enjoyed take out from the Boathouse and Grand Ely lodge in Ely.

We do the same thing for our first nights meal when we do a cabin stay. When we go up the Gunflint we grab pizza from my sisters place in Grand Marais before heading up the trail and when near Ely we used to grab pizza from Sir Gs. We really like the simplicity of eating pizza while getting settled into the cabin after the drive up. .

Of the many restaurants that went out of business, I miss Sir Gs the 2nd most. Vertin's would be most missed of all time. Biwabik has a couple of great pizza places, worth the drive. The VC on Lake Vermilion has great pizza.

I agree - Sir G's was a go to when I went up to Ely. Very sad that it's gone, same for the Steakhouse. Hopefully someone will be able to revive at least one of those places...

Insula has flatbread pizzas on their appetizer menu...I don't have first hand experience with those but based on the quality of everything else I've tried on the menu, it's bound to be terrific. They also have a similar item on their kids menu.

Google also says there is a "Hunt Brothers" pizza in the Cenex station on Sheridan?

There was something about Vertin's that I liked as well. The first 4-5 years going up to Ely, my friend and I would have our first meal there. The pace of service & everything, compared to places in the Chicago area, got us into the right "what's the big hurry?" frame of mind. It felt good and the meals were good. I imagine they got their share of bigger metro area visitors in a hurry for their food and the check.... that wasn't us!

Really liked Sir G's too.

Wilderness Wood Fire Pizza. It's a truck - they make whole pizzas. You can find them on Facebook. They are trying to open this weekend per an email I received today - see text below:

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your interest. I am a little behind this year due to some work needed on the truck.

We are aiming for this weekend and will make posts!

Thank you so much for your support!
