We will be up to ELY around 1p.m. tomorrow afternoon and we are wondering where to pick up our entry permits for ep16. Where would be the most convenient place to do this?
Thanks,
Jeff

TGO is a bait shop. Just follow 169 through town to Kawishiwi Ranger station. Not hard at all. The wolf center is located there to if that sort of thing interests you.

Actually, the ranger station is in a new building,on the left side of 169, across the road from the Wolf Center. The new USFS station opened earlier this summer.

hey jeffory-
probably won't catch you before you leave but if you made a permit reservation you requested that the permit be sent to a specific ranger station or cooperating business. it is best/easiest if you pick it up there. other ranger stations or cooperating business may handwrite you a permit if they can confirm your reservation but this gets to be more of a PITA for all involved. if you made a reservation for EP16 and didn't specify a pickup location it would probably go to the Kawishiwi District Ranger Station in Ely. I do believe however that EP16 falls under the jurisdiction of the Lac La Croix Ranger Station which is in Cook and it is possible that a permit would be sent there instead. if you did not make a reservation and are going to be picking up "whatever is available" aka a quick permit then any issuer will due but the ranger station is probably your best bet unless you are going through an outfitter in which case they usually will be glad to issue the permit.

The Great Outdoors bait shop is right on the main drag by Mike's Liquors and not far east of Zups Grocery on the main drag.

and have a great trip! let us know how it turns out!
