I'm planning a trip this June to the boundary waters with a couple friends. I have always gone to Seagull lake, but the people I have been with have not been big on fishing and I felt like I had to sort of host their trip being that they were beginners, so i didn't do much fishing. This year, I am going with more experienced people and plan to do a ton of fishing and basically feed ourselves with shore lunch.
What are the best chances for us to catch walleyes on a regular basis and not have to portage as much - more of a base camp and day fish kind of trip. Plan was to enter on 54a then canoe to Alpine lake and fish/camp on Alpine, etc. My other idea was to enter on sawbill lake. I have never been to sawbill, so wondering if someone could also help me realize challenges/opportunities with Sawbill, such as how far can we travel by canoe, etc., without needing to portage.
