Looking to plan the annual trip and the group says they would like to try for lake trout this year. We are mostly rookies to this type of fishing but would also hate to give up fishing for smallmouth and walleyes. So here's the question:

Is there an area some rookies like us could catch lake trout the end of May/beginning of June and also have our other species? Even if it's not the same lake perhaps two in proximity? We would prefer to stay off very large lakes. I have been to Rose and South lakes once previously and was able to catch fish on South but thought there may be other better areas.

I greatly appreciate any information anyone has and thanks in advance!

Lac La Croix has all of them but it's big water. Maybe shoot for the Boulder Bay area. I've never fished for lakers there, so I can't tell you where to look. Oyster has lakers and smallies, but don't know about the eyes. But it's close enough to Lake Agnes or Boulder Bay on LLC that you'd have options.
