Heading to Oyster on our first two nights this weekend. Have been reading the water temps are pretty warm for this time of year.I was looking for snap weights down by me to get my lures down deeper. Couldn’t find them. Does anybody know where in Ely I could find them?

I just tie a snap-swivel in line and attach weights that way

I would do it Jim's way as well. The kit from Offshore runs like $50 and those little red snap dealies are like $5 each if you need to replace. Cabela's sells a cheaper kit and I've read more than once that their snaps fail frequently.

In a pinch I have modified a bottom bouncer as well.

You can also use a three-way swivel for this to get the weight a bit away from your line, which could make feeling a strike easier.

These are great options, thank you! I was way over thinking it. I had considered the three way dropper rig. But was thinking with how trout like to roll it could be a pain to deal with. Jim's simple setup will do the trick. Plus it's already in the tackle box.

All options above are great but the beauty of snap weights is the ability to quickly remove the weight and flatline your presentation. This factor should not be underestimated and it’s one reason why guys will sometimes bring 2/3 rods etc. simply so they don’t have to re-rig all the time (say going to a slip bobber rig after casting raps etc). Not that it’s not doable of course, but I prefer not to re-rig if at all possible. So snap weights give you that versatility to change up on the fly. The other benefit is having your weight well away from your presentation. Not that it always matters but you can cast out 50’ of line, attach the snap weight, then release more line to desired depth. Removal when reeling in a fish etc is so easy and quick. The kit price is ridiculous though, I would never pay that. Just grab two clips in a pack for 15-20 bucks and use your own 2-3 Oz bell sinkers etc. order online from bass pro, dicks etc. If ease of removing g the weights etc is not a concern then I would definitely use the three way swivel as per the above post.

Moonman.
