Has anybody ever fished Rock of Ages Lake? It's a beautiful lake on the Pow Wow Trail. I hiked along it's gorgeous shores last summer on a day hike from Horseshoe. It's not accessible by canoe, unless someone was up for a mean, long portage. As I hiked by, I could only imagine the size of the ancient northern that might lurk in those waters. Wish I had brought my pole. Any Rock of Ages fishtales to tell, anyone?

Last year, in the second week of June my brother-in-law and I did well there. We were on Horseshoe in the morning on one of those days where it rained and rained. Caught a few smallies but it was pretty slow. Decided about 1:00 or 2:00 to get rid of the canoe and take the Pow Wow over to Rock of Ages. What a beautiful hike! Some of the biggest cedar I have ever seen are on that trail. Once we got there we fished from shore on the north side - right where the trail comes up on that huge rock overlooking the lake. - The view from the top of that rock was worth the walk alone!! Even if we caught no fish I would have been happy we made the trip. I walked down to the bottom of the rock on the left.... he fished from the right. We spent a few hours there and had some pretty consistent Pike activity. Nothing outrageous, but good enough for dinner and good enough to make that detour again if I find myself on Lake Three again and I have a few hours to burn.
