If you could only take one type of lure into the BWCA what would that be.

1. Walleye
2. Pike
3. Smallmouth

O.K. One for each...

Rat-l-trap, Rat-l-trap, and senko. I've caught all 3 on both of these.

Walleye: 4" black/silver rapala, weighted w/ splitshot to take it down

Northern: black weedless jitterbug, blade removed, eyescrew put in its place

smallies: perch bass-oreno

I, out of habit, use a 6" 20# black steel leader cause ya just don't know what your going to hook... Andy

For walleyes and smallmouth I like jig heads with Gulp twister tails on them. I even caught a 15lb northern on this setup but we do not usually fish for northerns.

Walleyes it would be a perch colored rapala
Northerns it would be a yellow twister tail jig
Smallmouth it would be a white beetle spin
and for lake trout it would be a Swedish pimple spoon

Jigs and twister tails for both walleye an SM. If I had to choose one color it would be white.

For pike, a red&white Daredevel, though I catch enough of them on the jig and twistertail as well.

Intersting,

It seems that I can catch bass on a orange, grey and black rapala while fishing for lakers.

Twister tails are good, especially the white ones.

In tewnty years of canoe trips to Quetico/Superior I have consistently caught pike, lake trout(early)and smallmouth on a four inch jointed blue rapala. I don't think you can beat a jig and twister tail for walleye over the long haul.

1 - Jig and leech

2 - Jig and leech

3 - Jig and 4" plastic grub

As you can see, I like to fish with jigs.

As a bonus

4 - Lake trout - jig and plastic grub

One for all would be a spinnerbait. I like them for bass and pike. I have no clue about eyes. I have caught a few on spinnerbaits.

1. Walleye - Rapala Deep Tail Dancer- Purple-esent
2. Pike - Smithwick stick bait 4 inches
3. Smallmouth- rubber frogs

'Eyes: Pink Jig w/ White 4" Twister Tail
Pike: Dahlberg Megadiver w/ steel tippet
Smallmouth: Clouser Minnow, Chart/White
I've yet to figure out how to consistently catch walleyes on a fly rod, but when I do, the spin gear will be staying home.

My favorite lure for all fish...is red, long, tubular, and has a fuse ;-) just teasing of course...

I have been known to catch the following on the baits listed:

1. Walleye - Lindy Rigged leeches,
2. Smallmouth - Smoke/red flake gitzits,
3. Pike - Firetiger weedless spoon with chartruese grub trailer...

I've yet to catch a laker, but I will keep on trying with a silver spoon trolling, and a white and chartruese jig (1/2oz) with a 4 inch gulp trailer vetical jigging.

Trolling spinners with a leech. Great on walleyes, northerns, smallies and even crappies if they're around. I like hot pink with white. And black nickel works good to. For spring lakers I like silvery minnow baits with a slitshot on the front hooks. Gets them down a little deeper.

1/8 oz curly tail jig in glitter colors.

Does anyone fish with Roadrunners? I've found that you can catch just about anything on Roadrunners.

Hey Beemer is this the Walleye weapon you were talking about?
I'm not quit sure this thing is legal to use in the boundary waters for fishing. If it is legal let me know where I can buy one.

If I were to have one lure. Just one lure, It would have to be a floating J-11 Rapala in a Perch finish. I wouldn't go into the BWCA without it.

We brought the new Glass Shad Raps #4 in white, orange, and silver last year. 10 walleyes over 25" and another 100 or so smaller ones. These work well along with Taildancers in any color.
