We will be headed up to Homer in 2 weeks and plan on fishing mostly Homer and Pipe lakes an possibly a few other close by lakes. We really want to get into some walleyes and the DNR info looks good on these two lakes. I planned on fishing the standard walleye structure but was wondering if anybody had any tips, recent reports, or past experiences with these lakes that could help us out. If you would rather email me let me know. Thanks for any information.
I spent a week basecamping on Pipe in mid Sept. and got to know the lake pretty well. The DNR Lakefinder says there are no walleye in Pipe but I caught 6 big walleye(4-5#s) during my week stay.If you head SSW from the eastern most campsite across the lake, there is a little dent in the shoreline.I picked up 4 of them there in 8 fow drifting leeches @ about 8a.m. There was a nice weedbed just out from the portage where I released a 42in. nop. Also the shallow bay around the pinnesula has alot of grass that is laying flat on the water. It is full of northerns, nothing big, but very fun to watch floating weedless lures get knocked airborn.
The northern part of Vern we caught a nice mix of walleye, smallies, and walleye. Juno has lots of small pike and many walleye all throughout the lake, but especially around the islands near the center campsite.
