Im fishing Basswood and east to Snowbank and lakes in between in early july, Specifically looking to land a monster pike. Anyone have any insight on these lakes? I'm going to purchase some giant lures. Last year I caught a large Pike that had a bass in its mouth about 10" long. it was amazing. I guess it was extra hungry that day.
Any insight on Basswood and Snowbank lakes then?

Just got back from Turtle lake off of Bald Eagle. Was a little disappointed, lot of work to get there and the northern's action was average. The fish did seem to go for black and white colors.

Best bet for trophy Northerns is sucker minnows. The bigger, the better. The area right autside of the island near Smitty's on Snowbank is a good place to start. Also, one portage off of Snowbank is Disappointment Lake. A home of huge northerns. I have seen an 18 pounder come out of there on a sucker minnow. The portage is an easy one too. Good luck!

We were on Turtle on Tuesday and Wednesday. We had decent fishing. One of our party caught about a 12 pounder and we caught a bunch of 4-6 pounders. No trophies, but the fishing wasn't bad. I do agree with Lucky that it was a lot of work to get there, though. The portage in from Bald Eagle is a killer. The island campsite was great, though, with its own resident snapping turtle.
