i want to target walleye on the river in October. Figure the river would be better than trying to figure out a lake if they turn over before I go. Anybody agree/disagree with this? Has anyone run in to duck hunters in Oct up there?

Seems like sound thinking to me. I've done well on Walleyes in the river in September, would think October would be even better.

Would you still focus on areas just below rapids? Only making a five day trip so I'd like to base camp near fishing. Any suggestions?

Current areas can hold fish all year. I guess I would also check out some of the deepest water I could find. 20-40 feet if you can find it. Good luck- make sure you let us know how you do.
