i use trilene low vis green mono on most of my jig, worm setups for bass, walleye in the clear waters of canoe land.
i do like having a non-stretch, super line rigged for my trout waters, throwing cranks, ect.
last two years i have used the fireline crystal with ok results.
what are your choices for super-braided lines?

hey greyjay,,
I personally hate braid. I can't tie knots with it, can't break it off, gotta cut it. I just don't like the feel of it when it gets wet, but that's just me. I've fished Lake of the Woods and Gunflint for years and I still use good mono or the floro. now. I know the walleye drop jig guys love the braid because it has no stretch, you feel the strike better. I have used big braid for leaders when i fish for pike. My fav. is just good old simple Trilene Big Game 8-10#,, it's good on the rocks, I can bite and tie quickly and it's not $25.00 for 100 yrds!
Just one man's opinion... good luck

The only time i use a braid is from the reel to a bottom bouncer and then mono back to the lure. It has incredible feel and since its alot stronger than the mono i rarely loose more than the mono leader to rocks and other snags. Other than that i always use trilene xl 8 pound for most everything and four pound for trout. The braid i prefer is berkley fireline.

both fireline(fused) and powerpro (true braided)are great. Power pro works on baitcasters and fire line doesn't. I use 30lb powerpro for throwing spoons on both baitcasters and spinning rounds. I use 6 or 8lb crystal for my jigs and lindy rigging.
don't forget to use backing when ever you use a braid.

I love Fireline. Made the mistake of putting on some mono for a trip last spring...man, did I regret that rat's nest. Never again!
I've found that 6-10 lb. Fireline is one of the most versatile lines out there. I can rig up with 8 lb. Fireline & fish for bass, pike, or even eyes (sometimes with a mono leader) on the same spool. I went with 12 lb. Fireline this fall in Quetico, no leader, & didn't have a single bite off. Stuff is tough as nails, sensitive as my old dance instructor, & has no memory to speak of. I haven't found a reason to use anything else in years.

there you go GreyJay,, line is a very personal thing!!!,, I will admit that when fishing twister tails with jigs heads light mono can really suck . That bait spins in the water and makes loops,,trolling spoons will do the same thing,, after about 30 casts you lift the rod tip up and it's almost immediatly engulfed by loops of mono off the tip of your rod,,,, painful,, and then there's the cast, after the line is looped real good,,, off a spinning reel it can sound like a bad helicopter take off,, blap.blap.blap.blap..

I've tried fireline and red power pro.......first session I lost alot of baits. WRONG KNOT! After adjusting myself I lost only to bottom snags. Fireline seems to be easier on rod guides than the true braids.

Greyjay, throw the crystal in the trash and get smoke color. fished with crystal one year and my bro-in-law had smoke I caught 0 fish to his 12 in three days of hard fishing, I changed line and we went back to 50-50.
