When ice fishing, at what depth would you start to look for for lakers? Specifically on Gillis Lake.

I've caught lakers ice fishing in the boundary waters anywhere from 8 to 90 ft. I know that doesn't help but I think others will tell you about the same thing. Gillis should be fun, maybe focus in 20 to 40 ft of water but don't be afraid to drill lots of holes at lots of different depths.

I agree they could be almost anywhere, but then again its gillis so they will be everywhere. Points, islands ,Id start looking here first. Look for good drops off these 20-50ft should hold fish.

They will use the whole water column. So Its good to use a vexilar if you have one.

I prefer to auger many holes, but being that deep in the woods with a hand auger 3ft of ice and a ft of slush, it doesnt always work that easy. Extension for your auger, sharp blades and extra blades are a must.
