I'm a student and our Outdoor Ed class is going on a winter camping trip to Clearwater Lake at the end of March. I have to give a presentation on trout fishing and I've never been trout fishing OR to the BWCA. Help me out? Types of spots to fish? Bait and tackle? Good techniques? Any other valuable info I can pass on? Thanks for helping!

Great questions. I am not an expert but I have noticed some trends. Smaller baits seem to work better than bigger baits. Live bait works better then smelt. Moving around to find fish works (but is a lot of work). Light weight depth finders cut the learning curve (allows the ability to find depth changes and suspended fish).

Good luck and have fun!

Give me a call at my shop in the mornings and I can give you some info to help you on your trip. (218-365-4744)

PS-Interesting that Roberts13 lists his location as Cherry School (Team name Tigers if it's the Cherry in northern Mn) and someone named Tigers10 replies:)

Very interesting indeed :) I am trying to teach my students how to use the different resources out there for planning a trip including message boards. There is a wealth of knowledge literally at the tips of these student's fingers. Hopefully they will use their resources wisely to enhance their outdoor skill base.

Thanks for offering your help. It is appreciated.
