I will be in BWCA in just less than two weeks coming from New England, and in my fishing I will be primarily interested in walleyes and bass. If I can find them in Duluth I will take leeches and Lindy rigs but I hope to have success with artificials.
1) What are your favorite lures for bass and walleyes this time of year? 2) Will any walleyes be active in shallow waters at night now?
3) Will I likely to find any fish of any species on the surface?
Where are you going into the BWCA from? Ely or the eastern side? You can get leeches closer to the BWCA than Duluth. A few more specifics on your trip will help you get more information... for example, entry point, and lakes you expect to visit.

I’m going up the same time 9/8-9/16 and this is the week I normally go. We caught quite a few bass on the surface last time I was there. I used a big plug that’s about 4-5” long with a popping lip. For this years trip I went through a few of the threads here and made a list. $112 later I’m pretty much set for all species and conditions. The one I’m most impressed with is the Heddon Zera Spook surface plug. Just a small twitch and that thing zigs and zags all over. The Mr. Twister Top Prop is also great for bass on the surface.
Here are the two threads I made my list from:
