Does anyone know anything about Alpine Lake? How's the fishing? I'm thinking about base camping there in early July.

It was a beautiful lake before the fire, the fishing was decent.

Alpine is a decent walleye and bass lake, with a low population of lake trout. Of course, there are pike, too.

Alpine is easy to get to and decent fishing. If you want to do a little more travel I would suggest going all the way to Ogish for a base camp. Be sure to take the 105 rod if your going in from Seagull. The 20 rod looks appealing, but there are rocks and a dangerous channel on the way in. Any time of year you can catch Walleye in Alpine. SB and NP are usually easy to find. Never caught a laker in Alpine before. If you are doing a base camp there you can take day trips into Jasper and Red Rock. Both are solid fisheries. Jasper has a healthy population of Walleye.

I've never stayed on Alpine, but would recommend Jasper or Ogish. I stayed on Jasper about 7 years ago and had good fishing on both Jasper and Ogish.

Last year we had some good fishing in the area near the shorter portage. I would agree w/Drew that the 105 rod portage is the better choice. We also had good luck fishing the rapids by the next portage.

We took the 20 rd portage too. More trouble than it is worth.
