Planning a trip with dad and two younger bros for the June 22 starting at 55 Saganaga (sp) and heading down along the border to knife lake, then over towards Alpine and Seagull. I love to fish, but the other three need some convincing. Nothing convinces like a lot of success! I would really appreciate any advice on tackle, depth, and locations along our path. thanks to all

We troll a lot, while traveling, you can't catch fish if you don't have a line in the water.

Bass and pike are the easiest nuts to crack, I would say, and I would recommend bass for less experienced folks because they are fun and they don't have razor-sharp teeth like pike. Cast top-water baits like the Rapala skitter-pop in the evenings along shorelines and in bays--anywhere bassy- and the guys will have a blast. If you are going to troll (which I would) as you move along, use a floater like an original rap that floats when it stops rather than something that sinks when you stop like a spoon. Snags are a real buzzkill for new guys. Leeches under a slip-bobber or rigged on a plain hook work wonders, too; try it from the campsite.

Catch some walleye and have a shorelunch..that should do the trick. For eyes that time of year, try finding some moving water and fish near the edge of the current or cast into it. That also works for pike and bass.
