I am heading in to Gabbro in early July and am wondering how the walleye fishing will be around that time?

Also, we would like to get up to Turtle and Clearwater as well and are wondering how the fishing is on both of these lakes during that time of year as well.

I have heard the pike fishing is good on Turtle but haven't heard anything at all about Clearwater. Thanks for the info!

I've been to Gabbro twice (in May not July) and never went to the other lakes you mention. But I can tell you that the northern fishing on Gabbro is good enough to make question why bother with the other lakes. In the two trips I did I had 15 or more fish 32" or bigger and they were fat. Biggest was only 36" but she was a hog.

I have fished on Cleawater before. The lake was indeed very clear. It didn't seem fertile enough to hold many fish. We did not get a bite although there are supposed to be pike in there.

Camped on Clearwater 2 nights last year. Didn't catch fish from shore, nor in the brief jaunt between rainstorms. Suspect they might have been by the portage to Turtle, but we didn't cast a line by there. A lovely lake and did not see anyone else for 2 days.

Turtle is known for lunker Pike.

fished on gabbro last year in early august and did not do great at all. we switched to bald eagle the last 2 days and did a little bit better. but we did get to turtle lake one day and got some pike action (only pike are in turtle). my buddy had two huge strikes on topwater and i caught this 35" 13lb on a spinner bait. the west side of the lake is better for fishing purposes. questions?

What's the best way to go about fishing northerns in Turtle? I passed through there a few years ago, remember a lot of shallow water and lillypads, those areas didn't seem very fishy, though. We spent an hour or two casting everything in our tackle box and didn't get so much as a single hit.

Northern fishing on Turtle was great when I was there. Mostly fished the West shore, using spoons. Caught 6 over 35 inches. Fished early June, came back in September same year and water had fallen about 3 feet. Fishing was better in June, but we still did ok in Septemeber. We caught two of the bigger fish when they came to stringer that had two smaller Northerns for our lunch. We stayed at campsight in narrows where Gabro and Bald Eagle meet, half mile paddle and half mile portgage into Turtle every morning.
