TGO and all:
Are there guys walking out up there yet? I know about 4", just curious. Is there a lot of snow in the woods? I'm thinking of that portage into Wood (as usual). Would a guy need snowshoes?
(I started having icefishing dreams about two weeks ago. The big walleyes are biting in my dreams.)

Some of the smaller lakes have frozen over, have some snow on them, and slush is starting to appear.
Better safe than sorry, so give it another week to ten days.
We have about 10-12 inches of snow on the ground.

I am dreading what this heavy snow may do for ice conditions. This could end up being very bad as far as slush goes which makes ice fishing difficult and a pain if your walking anywhere.

Is the recent snows creating problems with slush???

I would guess "yes". If one were to want to venture out on the ice, I'd play it safe and wait for a good week or two freeze. But I'm super paranoid about ice!

This snow was very wet and heavy, and will definitely cause slushy conditions on any of the lakes that had ice on them.

Is it safe to say that some of the big water was still open when the snow hit over there? These areas might freeze well by X-mas, no?

Looking at the webcam, Moose is still open but the others we can see (Birch, Farm, Fall, and Shagawa) are all frozen over.

Most of the big, deep lakes are still open and will most likely be for another 7-10 days, perhaps longer.
The webcams that show lakes frozen over don't show the danger of slush and thin ice which lies underneath the snow. This is always a dangerous time of year to go on the lakes, and some really push their luck.
You can have 4-5 inches of ice in one area, and 1 inch a few feet away.

Was up in the area nov 30 thru dec 3. You are taking your chances if you fish these lakes right now! There an inch of ice on top 2-3 inches of slush then 2 inches of good ice under all that crap.

STAY OFF THE ICE! for at least another week. IMHO.

I don't want to be reading about some knucklehead who froze to death this early in the year!
