Not that these are the greatest pictures photogenically speaking. But they do represent the "best" story of catching fish I have personally experienced.
Ice fishing with my brother Joel and some of his in laws a few years back. It was a small lake and slush & even standing water were a huge problem. In fact when augering a hole I fell as I pulled the auger up and water ran in over the top of my boot. Once we were setup & fishing,I pulled the boot liner & sock & began the process of trying to dry them out.
Fishing had been pretty slow when Joel finally got one on. He got a glimpse of it and yelled, "I'm definitely gonna want some help with this one!" I hopped up one barefoot & all to give him a hand. After a couple of runs he finally got it up. It was a very nice fish. I grabbed it but just as I was pulling it up it started violently flopping its tail. "DON'T DROP IT!!!!!" So I quickly stepped back right onto my boot that was on the floor. This caused me to lose my balance & I stepped right down one of my holes with my barefoot! But we saved the fish.
I was licking my wounds in the fishouse while Joel was outside strutting around telling the tale to his in-laws. When I heard a jig stick tapping on the wooden floor of the fish house. I set the hook. Fish on! Once I'd seen the fish I yelled for Joel to get back in here. Not quite as much drama pulling this one up as the first one but it was also over 30 inches. 2 trophy's in 10 minutes.
You can't tell it in the picture. But I'm barefooted. And that's why I'm still in the fishhouse for the picture. And moments after this there was a run back to my van to grab my extra boots and dry socks. Was never anything debilitating. But,it would be 2 months before I fully regained all feeling in the bottom of my right foot. :)
BTW both fish were released unharmed,
Wish I coulda said the same for me ;-)

Thanks, wish I could say I was fishing for walleye when I caught it. I was on a 13 day trip and this was the first afternoon out. Just set up camp and went trolling for Lake Trout in May. Thought for sure I had my biggest ever laker on when I was surprised to see it was a huge walleye. Caught it on a big gold husky jerk.
