I already have a Shimano 3000 series (same as 2500 but more line capacity) rigged up with a medium spinning rod I am planning on taking with me on my next trip to the BW. I am kicking around taking a medium light rod too, would you stay with a 2500/3000 series or would you go down to a 1000 series shimano reel? I am sure either will work just fine but curious if you all think a 1000 is worth bringing along.
Shimano suggests 6,8,10 lb line for the 2500/3000 series
and 2,4,6 lb line for the 1000 series.

quote Basspro69: "Bring em all, theyre pretty light."
There you have it I take 3 rigs with me. 2500 - 1000 and the AX 2500 that's my emergency back up. Last year my son broke a rod and it took him half a day to talk me into letting him use my spare. He'll know to bring his own spare next time.

I fish about 275 days a year as a guide and the 1000 series Shimano Ci4 is the only spinning reel I use and I have 6 of them. Best reel on the market for the money. Only reel that might be a litttle better is the Stella by Shimano and it costs around $500. The Stella is a good salt water reel because of the drag system which takes care of the initial surge that salt water fish make when they are first hooked.
You'll get a lot of opinions on this one but I make a living fishing and I have to use something that performs day after day.
Good Luck.
