Does anyone use one of these. If your trying to present live bait in deep water, this is a very effective lure for doing that, works well for suspended walleyes. It also works great for lake trout, as long as you tip it with T G O minnows. Erie Dearie

I have had a half a dozen of those for about ten years and have never tried one. I think I'll try one out this year.

I've used them on Lake Erie. I think it's illegal to use them anywhere else.

I used to fish a lure called a weight forward Mepps Lusox. I would change the bucktail trebel out for a single hook and a sucker minnow and the Pike just couldn't handle it.

Well yeah, all the time, almost every time I go fishing. Oh yeah, that is in Lake Erie, where I live one mile from, lol.

I have used them in other places, and they are good for getting down deep, however, they are snag magnets, pretty unsuitable for BW bottoms, fine if you are not bottom fishing, but don't plan on working the bottom in the bw with them, or buy plenty. Jigs for that operation.

The idea behind them is for mud bottoms, they kinda plow thru the mud, when hit and bounced off it, and somehow that creates interest for the fish, the little mud/sand explosion and the bait behind it.

Anyway, fine for anything except rocky bottom work.

I think kanoes mentioned them 3-4 years ago, back in the days when he still fished. Back then, I was buying everyone's favorite lure, plus they were charmingly regional, and I ended up with a couple of them. They may still be in the original packaging.
Maybe I'll try them in the Yukon.

I heard there was a big walleye kill there ( lake Erie) in the last few weeks. Is it true?

Strange Buz, but when I saw that rig my first thought was, "That looks like a snag waiting to happen."

Very good point on the snagging, I really only use it for open water mainly suspended applications. Very good method for when the lake stratifies and you just run it through the thermocline for fish that are hanging out there and bam your on fish .

Labman,

Yes there were an abnormal amount of walleyes found in the shallow part of the western basin floating around recently. Bioligists not too sure what is going on, has happened previously, they think the dual stress of spawning and the completely wacky weather is to blame. Water has been really stirred up for long periods, reducing the ability to feed properly, as apparently many/most of the fish surveyed had nothing in their digestive track at all, from some autopises done.

Who knows, likely mother nature at work.

Those Earie Dearies used to have a place in my tackle box. Now they all hang on a wall with other old lures I don't use anymore.
In the BWCA, I refuse to haul in something that heavy that isn't multi-purpose. I will carry in lightweight lures with spinners and a few bead sinkers so basically it fishes the same but I have more versatility with them.
I didn't even know they still made them.

You might be surprised what a large northern will do to one of these, tipped with a leach or a minnow.
Have had good success on Disappointment casting from a rock.

Being from Ohio, I've only used these on Lake Erie. Last year, my buddy pulled one out in the BW and I thought he was crazy. 2 walleyes and 2 pike later, he was laughing all the way to the bank. I bet they would work better with leeches.
