I'm new to these forums and I have been on 4 trips to bwca But i'm looking to take a trip with a few friends who don't have much experience fishing for walleyes and I've always had good luck making a loop from entry but this entry is fully booked so i'm wondering if there is an entries and lakes that anyone else knows of that could get us on some walleye lakes? thanks

Here is a copy of my response to a different post but it may be relevant to your query:

I have never soloed so I can't help you there. However, I have camped on Vista many times - wondering if you have been there before. The first time we came in from the South and some of the portages heading to Vista are among the worst in the BWCA! They don't call them the Misquah hills for no reason. We were planning a circle route but spent the rest of the trip plotting a different exit route because we refused to go that way again! Perhaps you don't mind that part but if you are concerned, consider entering through Morgan Lake instead. There is a 420 rod portage from your car into Morgan Lake to start the trip but I would rather take that one twice than the other ones! It is long but scenic and not terribly difficult. After Morgan, you can go through Jake or Carl and Lux to get to Vista. There are three campsites on Vista but the one in the NW corner, down the narrow arm is the worst campsite I have ever seen in the BWCA - don't bother. The nicest site is on the West shore, elevated and spacious. The South site has a better view but not quite as nice. In either case, be prepared for possibly some of the best Walleye and Smallmouth fishing you have had if conditions are right. Vista has given me the best stringers and meals of fish I have ever had in the BWCA.

The nice part, coxx, is that you can be at your campsite within 5-6 hours from your vehicle, even with that long portage! Obviously, campsites can fill up as there are other ways to get to Vista, but I have never seen anyone else on the Morgan Lake portage.
